The 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament national championship game lived up to the hype, as the South Carolina Gamecocks completed their undefeated season by taking down Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes with an 87-75 victory.
The depth and defense that has become the calling card for Dawn Staley’s teams was on full display yet again, while Clark dropped 30 points in her final collegiate game before likely becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft.
For the first time in the already-storied history of Dawn Staley’s South Carolina women’s basketball program, and for the first time in women’s college basketball since 2016 UConn, the Gamecocks completed an undefeated national championship season thanks to contributions from all over their loaded roster — highlighted by freshman Tessa Johnson’s career-high 19 points.
