News gist daily Sport brings you all the latest news from the Formula One paddock.

Lewis Hamilton led a hugely positive day for Mercedes by finishing first in second practice in Bahrain. Ahead of the season-opening Grand Prix, the Silver Arrows star finished 0.206 ahead of team-mate George Russell to complete a one-two for a team who hope to finally challenge Red Bull and Max Verstappen this year.

Verstappen surprisingly came down in sixth. However, the Dutchman appeared to be the fastest when the teams switched to race-simulation runs later in the session. The teams did not complete the practice session in the usual manner, making it difficult to predict who might come out on top in the Bahrain Grand Prix..
Teams will complete qualifying sessions on Friday ahead of Saturday’s main race. You can follow all the latest news in news gist daily Sport’s LIVE
