JJ McCarthy receives early 2024 Heisman Buzz

Finishing 10th in the 2023 Heisman Trophy voting, the Michigan QB is being mentioned in the 2024 Heisman conversation.

Michigan Wolverines Two Michigan football players finished in the top 10 in Heisman voting this year. Blake Corum finished ninth with three first-place votes, followed by J.J. McCarthy finished tenth with one first-place vote. The Wolverines still have two games left in the 2023 football season, but analysts are already looking ahead to 2024 and predicting which players will enter the Heisman Trophy conversation.

McCarthy, a junior, will have a big decision to make after the Wolverines game this season. Will he enter the 2024 NFL Draft or return for his final season in Ann Arbor? McCarthy is currently the No. 1 QB on several draft boards. From the No. 3 to the No. QB. It is expected to be 7. However, if he decides to return in 2024, he will be a name to follow in the big leagues.

Here’s what he had to say about McCarthy: McCarthy could be eligible for the NFL draft, especially if the Wolverines win the national championship. Michigan coach Jim Harbaghand, who left his alma mater, still isn’t sure. McCarthyand’s stats aren’t as flashy as the other quarterbacks in the wideout offense. He ran Michigan’s offense well and made mistakes difficult. He threw for 2,630 yards with 19 touchdown passes and four interceptions during the regular season.

In his second season as Michigan’s quarterb ack, the junior matched McCarthy’s age in 2022. The former five-star threw for 2,719 yards, 22 touchdowns and five interceptions in 14 games last season. In 13 games this season, McCarthy threw for 2,630 yards, 19 touchdowns and four interceptions. But where McCarthy excelled was his determination and precision.

McCarthy went from completing 64.6% of his passes in 2022 to completing 74.2% of his throws in 2023, becoming the second most accurate passer. It’s hard to imagine McCarthy putting up flashy numbers like Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr. Because Michigan doesn’t ask for it or want it. It was eight plays before McCarthy played in the fourth quarter. Otherwise, your numbers will be higher.

The Wolverines are good at running the football and putting their will in the hole. Things might have been different last year if McCarthy had let Blake Corum go to the NFL and come back to Ann Arbor.

But we’ll have to wait and see what McCarthy decidedly  after Wolverine and #039. 2023 is over.
