Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Greenery is set to be a free specialist but he’s not administering out a return to Indy and ruling with Jonathan Taylor.
Zack Moss is coming off the best season of his career. After being traded by the Buffalo Bills to the Indianapolis Colts last season, Moss finally got the opportunity in 2023 to prove that he could be the lead back for a productive run game. In 14 games this season, Zack Moss carried the ball 183 times for 794 yards and five touchdowns— all career highs. He also caught 27 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
This breakout season was possible because Jonathan Taylor missed the start of the year with an ankle injury. While Taylor was out, Moss capitalized on the extra carries and was actually leading the league in rushing up until Week 6. That’s when his workload started to decrease as Taylor was ramped up in the backfield.
Now, Moss will enter free agency this offseason. After what he showcased with the Colts this year, and the fact that Jonathan Taylor is the top back for Indianapolis, all signs point to Moss finding a new team where he could be the No. 1 back. However, he isn’t ruling out a return to Indy.
Moss recently told Nate Atkins of the IndyStar that “it would be great” if he was to return to Indy.
Zack Moss says it would be great to re-sign with Colts
Loaded backfields are great. The thought of what Shane Steichen could scheme up with Anthony Richardson, Jonathan Taylor, and Zack Moss all on the field together is frightening. Surely the Colts wouldn’t mind having Moss back next season, but it will probably all come down to money.
While Moss is open to a return, the reality is that he’ll likely be offered a better contract by a different team than Indianapolis. The Colts have already committed a lot of money to Jonathan Taylor; it’s unlikely that they’ll be willing to give a solid amount to his backup. After what Moss put on tape in the first half of the season, there will likely be a few teams that want Moss to be their top running back and are willing to pay him as such.
