When asked about his idols in F1, Lewis Hamilton refused to call Michael Schumacher his hero.
In recent times, Lewis Hamilton has said many times that he considers Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna as heroes. But on his F1 debut in 2007, the Brit refused to claim Schumacher as his champion.
Also, Hamilton has ever hesitated to call Senna his racing idol. In the past, Hamilton has cited the legendary Brazilian driver as an inspiration. Author Frank Worrall explained the same matter in his biography of Hamilton. advertising Worrall wrote: “I’d say (Hamilton) isn’t really a hero from childhood because a hero is someone who can’t be defeated. But there are some people I really respect.
In Formula 1, Ayrton Senna really inspired me and I never thought that Michael Schumacher would be called a champion, but I really respect him for what he achieved and what he did for the sport.” Despite his lack of confidence at the time in 2007, Hamilton appears to have changed his stance on Schumacher. When talking about the legendary pair Schumacher and Senna, the Silver Arrows often admired and explained how they wanted to emulate their success, their character and their loyalty.
Hamilton’s achievements in the sport saw him win his fourth world championship in 2017, beating Senna. Three years later, in 2020, he will match Schumacher’s record of seven world titles. Currently, he continues to achieve great records and consolidate himself as the ‘GOAT’. Lewis Hamilton wants to be called the GOAT of Formula 1.
Michael Schumacher, who worked for famous brands such as Jordan, Benetton, Ferrari and Mercedes, won 91 Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton surpassed that record with 103 victories in the sport. However, a record that no European has held is that of the most world titles. So Hamilton is on track to win a record eighth title. In 2021, he is about to get it.
However, in controversial circumstances, Max Verstappen won his first World Championship, denying the Briton the title. Since then, Hamilton has yet to win a race. Despite Mercedes’ weakness, Hamilton committed to his program for another two years. He wants to help Mercedes get back on top and get the World Championship trophy back.
With the team making significant progress in terms of fine-tuning the aero package for 2023, the 2024 season looks to be the perfect time for Hamilton to fight for victory and more international titles.
