As the Los Angeles Angels try to figure out life after Shohei Ohtani, they hoped their remaining stars would show up and perform to somehow replace his production in the lineup and on the mound. One of those players that needed to step up is Anthony Rendón.
Despite the hefty investment of $245 million in Rendón, his performance has not matched expectations. After a promising stint at the plate, his season has once again been marred by injuries. He recently revealed to ESPN that he is dealing with a high-grade partial tear of his left hamstring, which will require a lengthy recovery.

The 2019 World Series champion with the Nationals came down with an injury after running to first base during a game against the Cincinnati Reds on April 21, with the Angels placing him on the 10-day injured list.
Rendón showed frustration with this new injury, contrary to previous comments where he showed a lack of interest and apathy towards baseball and his commitment to the Angels. Rendón said:
I won’t be back in 10 days. Now four years have passed. So for a few days I was angry, sad, depressed, all the things you feel when your game is taken away, right? I want to win, I want to be there. I’ll do my best to be there, but nothing works.

Anthony Rendón has appeared in just 219 games since signing a seven-year, $245 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels. December 2019 and he probably won’t reach 220 games for a while.
Rendon’s contract is considered one of the worst in MLB history recently for the former Nationals all-star. He did not appear in more than 58 games in his previous four seasons in Anaheim, including the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
