Texas Defensive Lineman Alfred Collins ‘Expected to Return’ in 2024.
Longhorns linebacker Alfred Collins will return to the team in 2024 for his first SEC career, Inside Texas reports. Collins will have another year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 suspension for the 2020 season. This news comes shortly after star wide receiver Xavier Worthy announced his intention to enter the 2024 NFL Draft as late as Sunday night.
Collins’ return is a big win for the Horns, who will lose TandVondre Sweat and Byron Murphy to the upcoming NFL draft. That said, Murphy has yet to officially announce his intention to stay or leave. In 48 career games at Texas, Collins recorded 86 tackles, five pass breakups, 6.5 sacks, 12.5 tackles for a loss and one interception, and was one of the defense’s stalwarts when he was on the field.
Collins started five games in 2023 and had 22 tackles, including two sacks and two tackles for loss. He also helped form one half of a strong defensive rotation with Sweat, Murphy and Vernon Broughton. Collins, who will return to the team next season, joins an interior defensive back room that includes Broughton, Sydir Mitchell, Jaray Bledsoe, Zac Swanson, Aaron Bryant and newcomers DandAntre Robinson and Alex Hanuere.
And Melvin Hills. The Longhorns will also look to increase their offensive production with the recent signings of Trey Moore and Colin Simmons.
