How does the F1 Sprint work?
Sprints are races of 100 kilometers (62 mi), much shorter than the minimum distance of a Grand Prix (305 km). The event takes place on the Saturday of the race weekend and lasts about 30 minutes without pit stops.
It is a separate entity from the main event, with its own qualifying session taking place on Friday, just hours after the only practice session of the weekend. The top eight in the sprint will receive points (eight from first, one from eighth), which count towards the total points for the drivers’ and constructors’ championships..
