Simone Biles leads Team USA in qualifying, despite calf pain

The legendary gymnast appeared to be in pain during the floor exercise, but persevered with four strong performances for Team USA.Biles’ teammate Jade Carey fell to the floor, ending her hopes of defending her Tokyo gold in the event final.
He confirmed in a message to X, thanking him for all his support, that he hadn’t “had the best of times over the last few days” but gave everything he had on Sunday.
Current: The United States competed in the second of five divisions on Saturday and was ranked #1 among the first teams. Biles had the best overall score and high value in three of the four individual devices.
Careybounced back from the fall with a strong vault performance that saw her finish second to Biles among competitors so far.
Biles, 2020 defending all-around champion Sunisa Lee and Jordan Chiles rounded out the top three in the all-around. However, only two gymnasts from each country can make it to the finals.
