The month-long transfer window will give team captains on the Saudi-bankrolled circuit the option to trade players.
According to LIV Golf announcer Jerry Foltz, there have been ‘rumblings’ that a number of players are not currently happy on their respective teams and are therefore wanting moves.
So we could see some action this month.
Another update that has been made to the free trade zone is that teams can also extend the contracts of one of their players should it be coming to an end this season.
This means team captains could save one of their players from being relegated.
Those players finishing 45th or below come the end of the season are relegated from the LIV Golf League, unless they have a contract for the following year.
What has never been made official by LIV Golf, however, is which players are tied down to contracts.
LIV Golf announcer Jerry Foltz said:
“On Sunday night, we’re on the eve of our very first-ever transfer window, or free trade zone if you will.
“For one month starting from 6 May, teams and players can be traded for other players.
“They’re going to be straight transfers, you take my contract, we get your contract. No compensation involved.
“We didn’t really think there was going to be any activity whatsoever, and then in recent weeks, especially this week, we’ve started hearing rumblings of disgruntled captains about players, or players that want to play for another team, so there may be some activity if indeed it does happen.
“The other thing that can happen this window is teams can extend the contracts of one of their players if they no longer have a contract. What that means is that if that player got relegated, the extended contract has no hold, but players can lobby for a contract extension. Captains can try lock up players who might be a hot item in the free agent off-season time to another year or two of a contract.
“It’s going to be really exciting.”
