Meredith Scheffler, the wife of 2024 Masters champion Scottie, is just days away from giving birth to their first child but the world No.1 ploughed on to clinch his second green jacket
Scottie Scheffler promised his wife Meredith he is coming home as fast as possible after winning the 2024 Masters.
The American won his second major at Augusta National on Sunday by four clear shots, blowing away the rest of the field by some margin. Seven birdies and three bogeys saw him submit a scorecard of 68 as he collected his second green jacket in three years.
Scheffler managed this feat all the while knowing his wife could have their first baby any second. The 27-year-old made it known he would walk out on the tournament if he got the call that Meredith Scheffler has gone into labour
But the call never came and he went from strength to strength. A late challenge from rookie Ludvig Aberg added a little heat but in the end Scheffler eased his way to victory.

Scheffler was asked if he had a message to his wife following the win, he said firmly to her through the TV: “I’m coming home. I’ll be home as quick as I can. Yeah, I love you and I’m coming home. That’s all.”
When asked how to put it into words what it must feel like to be Masters champion and a father for the first time, Scheffler almost choked up. “You’re about to make me cry here in Butler Cabin,” he responded.
“It’s a very special time for both of us. I can’t put into words what it means to win this tournament again. I really can’t put into words what it’s going to be like to be a father for the first time. I’m looking forward to getting home and celebrating with Meredith. It’s been a long week here without her, but I’m just looking forward to getting home.”
Scheffler did manage to very quickly video call Meredith after collecting his green jacket, but it was so brief he wasn’t even sure who else was in background.
“I did FaceTime her,” he said. “Although it was very brief. She was at her aunt’s house. They just built a new house in Dallas where she actually stayed most of this weekend, and so they had a nice little group there watching. I saw maybe seven or eight people in the background.
“But honestly my head has been spinning since I got off the tee. I can’t even really tell you who was in the film or in the video other than Meredith.”
Asked if she had said anything to him Sunday morning, before playing, he replied: “She just asked me if she could pray for me. And I actually wasn’t able to talk to her very long this morning which was unusual. She sent a lot of prayers.
“My neck was bugging me a little bit. Just prayed for some healing and prayed for a lot of peace out there. I had a good conversation with my buddies this morning about the victory and that victory already being secure.”
Discussing if he was distracted by the fact or if he actually would have walked out, Scheffler added: “I guess that’s a testament to how good of a head space I was in. I wasn’t thinking about it that much. I was doing my best to stay in the moment, stay calm, execute shots.
“I was very focused out there today. I felt like I did a really good job. Teddy did a great job of making sure that we kept the golf course in front of us. I didn’t get off to the best start, but I had some key up-and-downs, and Teddy once again did a great job of keeping me in it.”
