The decision to hand him a new contract at the start of the season has been questioned, with many suggesting a number of young contenders would be better off. as an alternative to Red Bull in the future.
Perez made a strong start to the season, giving the team four podiums after the opening five races, but his form subsequently declined, scoring just 15 points in the last six races.

Tsunoda will drive Perez’s RB18
Red Bull reserve driver Liam Lawson has been tipped to take Perez’s place in the team, as well as the outsourced Carlos Sainz and current head of Visa Cash App RB, Yuki Tsunoda. Tsunoda’s performances in 2024 have improved significantly compared to last year, with the Japanese driver mostly ahead of the experienced Daniel Ricciardo.
The 24-year-old recently revealed that he is ready to take the next step in his career with Max Verstappen, but has already signed a contract extension to continue with RB next season. Last weekend, Tsunoda took Perez’s RB18 for a spin at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and even played his part at the vintage festival by wearing racing goggles under his open helmet. The RB18 was Red Bull’s 2022 car, where Verstappen won his second world title, while Perez managed to win two races that year in Singapore and Monaco.
