Randy’s mother played softball in Mexico In a touching moment before the Tampa Bay Rays’ game against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday, Randy Arozarena’s mother, Sandra Gonzalez, had time to shine.
Gonzalez, who only received his visa last week, was able to see his son play in the big leagues for the first time. Gonzalez, a former softball player for the Mexican team, showed off her skills by throwing a perfect no-hitter to a standing ovation from the crowd. Arozarena met him on the hill and hugged him, clearly touched by his presence.
Gonzalez just got his visa last week, so this will be the first time he gets to see his son play in the big leagues. The talented outfielder was recognized for his achievements when he won the AL Rookie of the Year Award in 2021 and won his first All-Star in 2023.
Arozarena’s impact was already felt at the start of the season when he started in center field in his first match at bat However, the Rangers were able to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning, putting the Rays in an early hole at home.
