Michael Smith and Peter Wright appear to have previous following their feud at the World Cup of Darts.
Michael Smith called out Peter Wright’s ‘weird’ antics as video resurfaces after World Cup.
Michael Smith was left bemused by Peter Wright’s behaviour at the Premier League Darts event in Leeds last year. The 33-year-old hit out at Wright in April 2023, with the duo now locked in a feud following the World Cup of Darts in Germany.
Smith was furious with Wright at the weekend and savaged the 54-year-old after England had defeated Austria to clinch the World Cup trophy in Frankfurt.
But it appears the two throwers have previous, if Smith’s comments from 14 months ago are anything to go by.
Smith defeated Wright 6-2 in the semi-finals of the Premier League Night 13 at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, before dispatching Gerwyn Price 6-4 in the final.
But Bully Boy was unhappy at Wright’s attempt tfo shake his hand in the aftermath of their showdown as he exclaimed during his post-match interview: “That was a bit weird that, wasn’t it.
They even asked me when I came back on stage why did he just slap my hand. I didn’t do nothing, didn’t open my mouth, didn’t say nothing. After the first game he was moaning about the wind and maybe again in the second one.
He was snatching a lot and I was watching him throw, he didn’t look like Peter Wright. Maybe he was annoyed with himself but he took it out on me – so that’s his problem I guess. I just had to get on with my own job and I think I did it well.”
Smith teamed up with Luke Humphries at the World Cup as the duo overcame Scottish pair Wright and Gary Anderson in the semi-finals before their victory over Austria in the showpiece event.
And after the final, Smith once again lashed out at Snakebite, who had apparently suggested that world champion Humphries had been carrying the England team.
Before the semi-final, when was it? The quarters. Peter Wright walks past, asking Luke how his shoulder was,” Smith told reporters. “The guy’s just averaged 78 and he’s tried giving me s***.
I was like ‘what are you doing?’ and then had an argument, or not an argument, but a bit of banter backstage. That guy should have some strong shoulders because he’s been holding the Premier League up for two years.
“He annoyed me today and I think that spurred me on in that semi-final. I’ve never gave it that large ever. I needed to get that out because it r
eally annoyed me.”
