The driver, a 79-year-old man, was treated by paramedics after suffering serious injuries, but died at the scene. When the ECHO arrived at the scene there was a huge emergency services presence including Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue and North West Ambulance Service near to Brooklet Farm.

An air ambulance also landed. Brimstage Road and Brimstage Lane were closed off by police . A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue confirmed the driver of the car was removed on a “long board by crews”.
Witness and CCTV enquiries are ongoing in the area, police said. A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue said drivers and members of the public are advised to avoid the area whilst our officers are at the scene.
Chief Inspector David Currie, said: “Our condolences go out to the family of the 79-year-old man who sadly died following a collision on Brimstage Road.
“The next of kin of the driver have been informed and are being supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers. An investigation is ongoing in the area and we would ask any drivers in the area who witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam footage of the incident, to come forward.
“Any footage, or information, could be vital in establishing what happened.”
