Longhorns Among Elite in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early
TEXAS LONGHORNS
The Texas Longhorns are on the verge of competing for a national title. In 2023, they will face the Washington Huskies in the Ice Hockey Championship next week.
And while the Longhorns lost a lot of talent on both sides of the NFL, they’ll be in good shape when they move to the SEC next season.
That talent includes up-and-coming talents like Colin Simmons, Ryan Wingo and Xavier Filsaime, and they’re getting big help from Trey Moore, Matthew Golden and Andrew Mukuba, each of whom is playing a big role. Next time.
In other words, the Longhorns appear to be reloading rather than rebuilding.
So ESPN has high hopes for the Horns in 2024, who rank second in their Way-Too-Early Top-25, behind only the Georgia Bulldogs.
Here’s what ESPN has to say about the Horns:
The Longhorns are back. Texas turned the corner in 2023 under coach Steve Sarkisian, winning the Big 12 last season and advancing to the CFP for the first time. The Longhorns could return four offensive linemen to bolster the team and their front line. The task of identifying players who can replace key players like Sweat and Murphy on the defensive line will be mid-spring. Quarterback Quinn Ewers has a decision to make in the NFL Draft.
Upon his return, Ewers had to find new targets with Mitchell, Worthy and Sanders leaving for the NFL. The Longhorns play at Michigan on Sept. 7, play Oklahoma in Dallas and Georgia at home on back-to-back weekends in October before closing out the season on Nov. 30 at Texas A&M. Welcome to the SEC.
According to ESPN, the Longhorns have everything ahead of them in 2024..
