LIV Golf star who has banked £6m escapes disqualification after breaking beginner’s rule

LIV Golf’s Scott Vincent is competing on the Asian Tour this weekend – but his Invitational Series Morocco campaign got off to the worst possible start as he narrowly avoided being disqualified

LIV Golf ace Scott Vincent narrowly missed being disqualified from the International Series Morocco on Thursday after it emerged he’d been breaking one of golf’s most basic rules – missing your tee time.

Vincent, who has banked £6million since quitting the PGA Tour for the Saudi Arabia-funded breakaway league, was competing alongside fellow LIV star Eugenio Chacarra, but his preparation was disrupted after discovering his luggage – including his clubs – had been misplaced by an airline on his way to Morocco.

He attempted to retrieve them by returning to the airport, but after failing to locate the clubs he then missed his 12.30pm tee time – landing him in hot water with Asian Tour tournament officials.

There are, however, three exceptions to the rule, with one being if the player in question arrives to the course within five minutes of their initial tee time. Staggeringly, Vincent made it with just 30 seconds to spare, and escaped being kicked out entirely.

He did, however, receive a two-stroke penalty for missing the initial tee time – which he apparently did because he took a wrong turn on the way back to the course. Vincent was, rather inconveniently, made to play with borrowed clubs, having hastily put together a bag made up of clubs he borrowed from the club pro.

Speaking afterwards, Vincent saw the funny side of the incident, saying: “Lucky enough, we have some really cool people out here on the Asian Tour – it is a friendly tour.
