Lewis Hamilton met with Christian Horner about a move to Red Bull before signing his contract with Mercedes.
Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton has approached Red Bull to inquire about the possibility of joining the team before committing his future to his current employers, team principal Christian Horner has sensationally claimed.
The British player has won six of his seven world titles with the Silver Arrows after spending 10 years with them, but Horner has been with Hamilton’s camp since being informed he was available.
He announced that he had had discussions.
Hamilton, along with teammate George Russell, have signed a new two-year contract with Mercedes following lengthy negotiations with manager Toto Wolff, which will see them lead the team until the end of the 2025 season.
There was speculation that the 38-year-old had entered talks with Ferrari and Red Bull to explore options, but both the Italian manufacturer and Hamilton denied these claims.
However, Horner caused a stir once again by revealing that he had met with the seven-time world champion.
“We’ve had several discussions over the years about bringing Lewis in,” Horner told the Daily Mail.
“They have contacted us several times, most recently at the beginning of this year, asking if there would be any interest.
