Leclerc delivers A Brutal Ferrari verdict after Newey rejection
Charles Leclerc insists Ferrari is a sum greater than its parts after missing out on Adrian Newey.
Charles Leclerc has given Ferrari and Frederic Vasseur his “200% backing” despite the Scuderia being rejected by Adrian Newey.
Ferrari was one of the teams interested in signing Newey after he announced his exit from Red Bull, with the Maranello outfit long-time admirers after previously trying to sign him in 2014.
Newey, who was not keen to move to Italy, ultimately decided to join Aston Martin as a shareholder and managing technical partner from March 1, 2025, meaning a future Ferrari tie-up for the 65-year-old now appears extremely unlikely.
Reflecting on missing out on Newey, Leclerc insisted Ferrari was stronger than one man.
“There is no disappointment as it is not like we didn’t try or haven’t spoken with Adrian,” Leclerc told media including Newsgistdaily
“I knew there were talks, but then he made his decision and we respect his decision.
At Ferrari, we have always considered the group more than the actual individual, and of course, Adrian has an incredible track record, and has done amazing things.
“But on our side, we’ve got an amazing group and I have no doubts going forward that we have an extremely strong team to come back to the top and I am really happy with the structure.”
Leclerc then gave team principal Vasseur his emphatic backing.
“Obviously it is Fred’s job to try and put the team in the best possible place to try and win races,” added Leclerc. “I trust Fred 200% and I am completely on board with his vision.
“It is a continuous process of trying to improve Ferrari and to get better year after year. We are in the middle of this process but I am super happy with the way he sees things and the things he is doing.”
