Las Vegas GP chaos as Mercedes and Red Bull break rules while chiefs
Las Vegas has already provided some interesting scenes for Formula 1 this weekend and that is almost certain to continue after a disjointed first day. Practice sessions were severely delayed to the point where spectators were forced to leave the stands as the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen had to drive long into the night.
After a disappointing last race in Brazil, Mercedes will feel that they have been handed a boost as George Russell topped the timesheets in FP3 after a red flag ended practice early following Alex Albon’s crash. Charles Leclerc led the grid on Friday’s only meaningful session following an issue with a cover drain that unfortunately saw Carlos Sainz pick up a 10-place grid penalty.
The Las Vegas GP has seen plenty of glitz and glamour but not everyone is impressed, Red Bull star Verstappen has repeatedly hit out at the track that he believes is boring and he would prefer to focus on the driving this weekend rather than the spectacle in Sin City.
Hamilton and his Mercedes boss Toto Wolff have both been strong defenders of those involved in making the Las Vegas GP happen and will hope that they are rewarded with a positive qualifying position ahead of Sunday morning’s race.
