Larry Bird Allstate commercial: Inside the March Madness ‘Mayhem Man’ ad featuring NBA legend
March Madness never fails to deliver chaos. Whether it’s stunning buzzer-beaters or shocking upsets, the NCAA Tournament provides must-watch television every spring.
However, not all havoc is positive. When it comes to real life, people are surprised all the time by things out of their control. That’s where insurance companies like Allstate step in.
Allstate’s latest commercial comes at a time with basketball on the minds of many across the country, and who better to star in the commercial than NBA legend Larry Bird?
March may bring the Madness on the court, but off the court, Allstate is highlighting the mayhem. Their advertisements are always full of creative ways to show destruction in everyday lives, and the latest with the NBA Hall of Famer does not disappoint.
Allstate struck gold with its idea of a personified version of “mayhem” in its commercials. Dean Winters stars as the disheveled actor that constantly shows up and creates chaos, causing destruction everywhere.
A number of different promotions have been created with Winters and the concept of mayhem coming to life, giving the company its infamous slogan, “You can save money and be protected from mayhem — like me.”
In the latest Allstate commercial, Bird stars in the 30-second advertisement as himself, while Winters is representing a bird in the attic. The NBA legend tries to corral the bird, but he ends up doing more damage than good. He hits his head on the ceiling boards and ends up falling through the flooring.
