JUST IN :Mercedes explains Hamilton weakness .

For Lewis Hamilton, qualifying has always been a high point, but not in the last 2.5 years.

This is the reason. Andrew Shovlin, the director of Mercedes trackside engineering, has provided an explanation for why teammate George Russell is easily defeating Lewis Hamilton in qualifying this year.

Hamilton has a history of dominating Saturdays; in his 344 grand prix career, the seven-time Formula One champion has recorded a record-breaking 104 pole positions. But in the two and a half years since the current ground-effect era began in 2022, only one of those poles has occurred.

When compared to a teammate, Hamilton’s season has been the poorest thus far because Russell has outqualified him 10-2 during the course of the 12 grand prix.
