With the Presidents Cup set to begin in just three weeks from the Royal Montreal Golf Club, Jim Furyk formalized his Team US roster on Tuesday with a controversial snub.
The 54-year-old, longtime American ambassador on the international stage went chalk with his unrestricted captain’s picks, selecting players 7-12 on the Presidents Cup qualification standings to omit recent Team USA staple Justin Thomas.

“There are a bunch of guys that I would want on this team. It was a difficult decision with JT, definitely a difficult call to make,” Furyk said. “But as a captain, you’re trying to make the best decision, put the best 12 guys together, fit the puzzle pieces together, the pairings together.”
The six captain’s picks included Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Brian Harman, Russell Henley and Max Homa. The final six roster spots automatically comprised the top 6 finishers in the Cup standings: Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay and Theegala.
Furyk has been one of the most accomplished international players over the past three decades, appearing 17 times for the U.S. national team while posting a 20-10-3 record in President’s Cup play. He was announced as the American captain in 2023, his first time earning the honor.
His selection of Bradley also once again pits the 38-year-old Floridian against Thomas for a controversial national team selection spot. Bradley was in line to receive a captain’s pick for the 2023 Ryder Cup based on the points standings but was snubbed for Thomas, who has featured in every US national team since 2016 before this September.
“The reality for me is, I don’t have this connection to that group that a lot of guys have, so I know I have to go play well to get on this team,” Bradley said on the Netflix show “Full Swing.”
