Author: Dennis Waszak Jr. Associated Press Friday, September 15, 2023 FOOTBALL New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) sacks Buffalo Bills linebacker Leonard Floyd (56) during the first quarter of an NFL football game Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, in East Rutherford.
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers says he is using the setbacks in rehabbing from Achilles tendon surgery as motivation and has announced he will return to playing football — possibly even this season. Rodgers tore his left Achilles tendon in the fourth inning of his debut with his new team Monday night in a 22-16 overtime win over Buffalo. The four-time NFL MVP underwent surgery Wednesday in Los Angeles. “I guess I would say give myself the benefit of the doubt,” Rodgers said Friday on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show.”
“Give me a schedule. Give me all the things that you think will happen, should happen or will happen, because I just need that extra percentage of inspiration. That’s all I need. Jets’ Aaron Rodgers hints at a possible return and says anything is possible “So tell me your suspicions, tell me your predictions, and then see what I do.”
Rodgers’ surgery was performed by Los Angeles-based orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has worked with several professional athletes throughout his career.
The 39-year-old quarterback faces a long and difficult recovery from the injury and rehabilitation. “The odds are definitely against me age-wise, but I like it,” Rodgers said. “Stick the odds against me and see what happens.”
He said he has talked to several people who have had similar injuries and rehabs. “My whole focus and dedication is to get the most information,” Rodgers said.
“And on top of what I’ve already put together is a pretty good rehabilitation plan that I think will shock some people.”
