“I prefer not to talk about it because that was a real moment” – Carmelo Anthony on if he battled and defeated Michael Jordan in a 1v1
Carmelo Anthony had the opportunity to work with Michael Jordan early in his career, having signed with the legend’s shoe brand as a rookie. Considering MJ’s nature of challenging much younger players to a duel on the court, some people might be curious how he and Anthony figured in a one-on-one battle.
The recently retired professional scorer revealed on his podcast if he and Jordan ever had a 1v1 after his co-host The Kid Mero reminded Melo that he once said he had never lost in the NBA one-on-one matchup.
“I don’t want to talk about that,” the one-time scoring champ replied. “I’m just saying I don’t want to talk about it because I prefer not to talk about it because that was a real moment. I was in sanctuary, like in church. I was in the temple.”
No competitive face-offs
It would have been interesting to hear how a game between the hoop icons ended. After all, they were two of the greatest scorers ever. While Jordan would have had the edge on defense and experience, Anthony was certainly more athletic and stronger. Still, the five-time MVP was still fresh off his last playing season, where he played all 82 games when the Syracuse University product entered the league.
