We all suffer bad days in our personal lives and at our places of work, but rarely are those bad days broadcast for a national television audience to see, with thousands of fans poking fun at you for the downfall on social media afterward.
That’s how things played out on Sunday afternoon for Rory McIlroy, who faltered down the stretch at the U.S. Open and lost by a single stroke to Bryson DeChambeau. Though McIlroy held a two-shot lead with five holes to play, short missed puts on two of the final three holes ended up being his downfall
After the round, McIlroy got out of dodge as quickly as possible, leaving the course before speaking with media members.
On Monday, the PGA star took to social media to announce that he was stepping away from the game briefly after the devastating loss.

While social media can be a brutal place at times, it also provides an area for fans to support stars when they are feeling up to it. That’s what we saw on Monday as golf fans rallied around McIlroy to support his decision.

While we won’t see McIlroy on the tour for a few weeks, there’s no question that he will turn up ready to go for the Scottish Open and the Open Championship at Royal Troon this summer.
