Glam darts walk-on girls set to return six years after being ‘fired over text message’
Darts walk-on girls are coming back, with two favourites who were ‘dropped with a text’ six years ago set to return.
Daniella Allfree and Charlotte Wood, both 36, will be making a comeback in their roles at the the World Seniors Matchplay in October.
The role was axed by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) amid accusations of sexism and last week, it was announced the walk-on girls are set to return next month after being hired as ambassadors for the World Seniors Darts Tour (WSDT).
Jason Francis, speaking for the World Seniors Darts Tour explains: “We have signed them up long term. Its not a gimmick. They are ambassadors for the sport.
We got a lot of feedback and interaction from fans and people kept telling us it would be great to see the girls again, and so we’ve done it.
“We thought it was a great opportunity for them. They are going to be part of the darts furniture. It is going to be a chance to relieve a piece of history.”
Speaking about the sport’s U-turn, Daniella told The Sun: “It’s definitely been a shock to be back on the darts. It’s been a bit of a U-turn from six years ago. I feel like they have just listened to the fans.
“They are a fantastic company to be a part of, so we’re proud to be back.”
Daniella revealed the unceremonious way she was dropped from her job over text.
She said: “When people retire from the sport they do something nice. I thought we’d have at least got a tweet to say something like ‘thank you for all the years, goodbye to walk on girls, time’s are changing’ but we got nothing. It was a text message and that was it.
It upset us really more than anything. It felt like we were disposable.”
Charlotte, 36, added: “We are honoured to be a part of it and it’s honestly the best job ever. We both loved it. There’s nothing about it that we didn’t love.
“We are so excited to be coming back
