Florida State kicks off the spring with a roster full of new faces
FSU Football Head Coach Mike Norvell Recaps First Day of Spring Practice
The Florida State Seminoles are coming off their first spring practice of 2024 which gave coaches and assistants a chance to get eyes on the team together for the first time. Head coach Mike Norvell met with the media afterward to discuss the session and give insight into day one of spring.
FSU added 23 newcomers to the roster this past offseason in major positions including quarterback. Oregon State transfer DJ Uiagalelei and former four-star prospect Luke Kromenhoek performed well, Norvell said, although there were some missed opportunities.
“I thought they did a good job. I thought DJ had some really good moments, some good throws,” Norvell continued. “Pushed the ball down the field, showed some confidence in what we were asking him to do. With the first install, I thought there were some missed opportunities that we had. You know, thought Luke handled the offense well.”
One player who has stood out in the offseason is Alabama transfer wide receiver Malik Benson. Norvell mentioned his speed but noted that Benson along with all of the wide receivers needed to find a rhythm.
“I thought he did some good things and, you know, like to, you know, I like the speed that I saw today at receiver. I mean, there were some missed opportunities that we had, you know, some of them, you know, really guys that were some of returning guys. We had some balls that got to the ground, we got to be better at.”
With so many additions to the roster, spring will give the Seminoles time to evaluate the team now that they are at full pace.
“This is the first time that with coaches and all of us out there together, to throw, to catch, to do things at a full-speed pace. So, I thought it was good for day one, I’m looking forward to the strides that we’ll make throughout the rest of the spring.”
Practice is set to resume on Thursday as the ‘Noles prepare for their annual Garnet and Gold Spring Showcase on April 20 at 4:00 p.m.
