ESPN Greg McElroy beieves Georgia has a 90% chance to make College Football Playoff in 2024, but ESPNand’s Greg McElroy thinks it has a good shot in a 12-team version.
GEORGIA BULLDOGS
Former Alabama national champion quarterback and current ESPN analyst Greg McElroy is one of the leading voices in college football. In a recent edition of the Always College Football Podcast, McElroy took a look at which SEC teams will make it to the 12-team football tournament in 2024.
The Bulldogs are at the top of his list despite the odds. list From 2024 and
you can place it in the first place. Ohio State, because of what they’ve done, they’ve done in the lobby the last few weeks, they’ve put themselves ahead. Bulldog’s. But in any case, Georgia is very good with its comebacks. You can’t be near the top of the table with a 29-1 record in your last 30 game McElroy began.
“You’ve got Carson Beck back as a starter in his second and fifth year with the program. I don’t think he can be trusted. I think Heand is a very good player. And he looked at the mixed class around him. They have been in the top four almost every year. It went up twice andquot;
With the return of Carson Beck and some big transfers, McElroy appears to be on offense, but the decline of the defense in 2023 worries McElroy.
and they can move a soccer ball. We know they will be great. They probably have the fourth best quarterback in the SEC. But the defense was nothing like we’ve seen from Georgia before. If you look at their defense last year, they had a lot of turnovers. Sometimes very good. There are times when it hits the ground. The Missouri game comes to mind, the Bama game. So I looked at how they were doing defensively. I think that group can go forward because they played a lot of young games in that side last season. At one point, they had four new ones in the front row.
The Bulldogs open the season in Atlanta against a good Clemson team, followed by road trips to Kentucky, Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss
For me, the schedule is harder tha The years passed. Take Clemson there in the non-conference and get to Atlanta. It’s a tough game. Go to Ole Miss. Go to Alabama, go to Texas. These are probably the three best teams in the SEC outside of Georgia. The trip to Georgia is going to be tough and I think they’re going to go 12-0... It’s hard to imagine. But the worst case scenario is 10-2, 11-1
If you look at last year, they finished sixth [in the College Football Playoff standings]. That, I said, is an SEC Championship loss. It’s a more complicated schedule, but I think the committee will like it.
Assuming the team is undefeated in the SEC, who has a better lineup than the Georgia Bulldogs? So I think there’s a 90% chance they’ll be in the twelve-team field next year..
