PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy filed for divorce after seven years of marriage to Erica Stoll, with the four-time major champion describing their relationship as ‘irretrievably broken’
Erica Stoll response to Rory McIlroy divorce papers sums up how bad things are.
Rory McIlroy’s file for divorce could well be uncontested by his wife Erica Stoll, after the latter missed her deadline to respond to the Northern Irishman’s request to the court.
McIlroy and Stoll married in 2017 and have one child, three-year-old Poppy. In recent weeks, though, it was revealed that the Northern Irishman had filed for divorce, summoning the legal papers to his wife of seven years at their Jupiter home prior to last month’s PGA Championship in Kentucky.
Having received the legal papers from her husband, 36-year-old, Stoll was given Florida’s standard 20-calendar day window to respond with her answer, but according to the Daily Mail Stoll missed this deadline on Sunday.
Stoll now runs the risk of the separation going ahead without her participation, with the court able to grant McIlroy a default divorce. As part of his petition, the world No. 3 golfer requested shared custody of their three-year-old daughter, as well as asking the judge to enforce the prenup they signed prior to tying the knot.
Per the report Stoll was handed the divorce papers by a local police officer named Carl Woods, who warned the 36-year-old of her 20-day deadline. “You have 20 calendar days after this summons is served on you to file a written response to the attached petition with the clerk of this circuit court,” the officer said.
“A phone call will not protect you. Your written response including the case number given above and the names of the parties, must be filed if you want the Court to hear your side of the case. If you do not file your response on time, you may lose the case, and your wages, money and property may thereafter be taken without further warning from the court.”

In the aftermath of the divorce filing in May, McIlroy has not commented on his personal life, after reporters were instructed at last month’s PGA Championship that he would answer no questions on his situation away from the golf course. His manager Sean O’Flaherty said in a statement: “Rory McIlroy’s communications team confirmed today that a divorce has been filed.
“They stressed Rory’s desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible. He will not be making any further comment.” In a press conference in the days following, Mcllroy was asked how he was on a personal level at Valhalla Golf Club, responding: “I’m ready to play this week.”
In recent weeks, the four-time major champion has been romantically linked to CBS Sports’ broadcaster Amanda Balionis, who interviewed McIlroy as recently as last Sunday at the RBC Canadian Open. The pair are yet to comment on the rumours, with the reports of a roman
tic connection played down.
