Cameron Menzies has taken action after speaking out on social media..
Darts star Cameron Menzies announced that he has deleted his social media post on X (formerly known as Twitter) in a bid to forget about his World Grand Prix performance, which left the Scot “heartbroken”.
It was a difficult evening for Menzies in Leicester, going down 2-0 in a first-to-two-sets match with Dave Chisnall as he exited in the first round without winning a single leg.
Chisnall dominated the affair and hit four 180s to Menzies’ zero, with the semi-professional swiftly taking to X to claim that efforts such as those at the World Grand Prix emphasised why he had not fully turned pro yet.
This is why I work,” he wrote. “I am so far off being a pro n today absolutely broke my heart. I am so sorry.”
Menzies, who has enjoyed an otherwise strong year and sat 44th on the PDC Order of Merit rankings before travelling down to Leicester, received an outpour of support from fans but wanted to put the occasion behind him by deleting the post.
He since shared a follow-up message congratulating Chisnall, writing: “Deleted the tweets just because I want to forget about yesterday as quick as possible n go again. @ChizzyChisnall was far too good for me n gave me a massive learning curve. Class mate. Now Al sit back n watch like a fan n plod away.”
Menzies, who currently works as a plumber in order to support his darts career, reached the quarter-finals of the Players Championship just last month, eventually going down to former world champion Gerwyn Price.
Both Menzies and his partner, fellow darts star Fallon Sherrock, have been in action this week with the female world No. 3 competing in the Modus Super Series.
Sherrock and Menzies have been dating since 2021 after meeting in an online darts league, with the Scot crediting his girlfriend for improving his game at the oche.
She has made my darts better,” Menzies told The Sun last year. “If I wasn’t with Fallon I’d still be a decent darts player, but she has definitely made me a better player. Who is the better of the two of us? I think I’m a tad better, but she’s better on stage when you’re in the spotlight. She just handles that better… she has bigger balls than me.
