Colorado injury return takes pressure off upperclassman transfer
Travis Jay’s Colorado football return is set to take pressure off of fellow Florida State defensive back transfer Omarion Cooper as BuffsBeat’s Nick Ferguson relayed — who acknowledged Cooper for holding down the position on a defense that has by and large been porous outside of the secondary.
“(Jay’s return) is great news for the Buffs secondary going into the final stretch of the season,” Ferguson prefaced before saying, “It will help take some weight off Omarion Cooper, who has held down the right cornerback spot since the start of the season. We’ll see how this translates going forward for Colorado’s defense, who’s nearly last in the Pac-12 for points allowed.”
Coach Prime used FSU, his almater mater he’s not on the friendliest terms with, to land five transfers, all on the defensive side of the ball, to craft a defense that has been the cause of early deficits and blown second-half leads; all on the way to losses this season. There’s not been a steady effort as a group outside of the Nebraska game for the Pac-12’s worst defense.
When Cooper committed to the Buffs, he credited Boulder’s beauty and his hometown connection with Coach Prime as a fellow Fort Myers native to why he chose the University of Colorado (h/t On3).
“What stood out was the beautiful town and landscape! The amazing people there and the coaching staff have lots of NFL experience,” Cooper prefaced before saying, “Why not get coached by the best and a head coach who is from the same city as me?”
What’s for certain is Cooper’s enjoying CU enough to give it his all and get the nod from the Colorado coaching staff to play every week; proving that he’s prepared enough week in and week out to not be the victim of a Coach Prime callout.
