Checo Perez points to the real reason behind so much criticism
The driver believes that his origins have influenced the criticism he received after his poor result
Afew weeks ago, controversy erupted after Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko made a comment about Checo Perez. “Checo is South American and so his head is not as focused as Max Verstappen‘s or Sebastian Vettel‘s, but racing is his forte and he had a very good pace,” he said in an interview with Servus TV’s Sport & Talk.
Just a few days later, Marko came out to explain and justify himself: “I meant to say that a Mexican has a different mentality than a German or a Dutchman, but who knows, maybe he’s in control”. In addition, Checo himself said the advisor apologised to him. “I had a very good conversation with him and he apologised for his comments,” he said.
However, with the sea now calm, the Red Bull driver has once again spoken on the subject, albeit not directly. During an event at Ford’s campus in Mexico, Perez spoke about the criticism he has received this season. His year started well, but he hit a bump in the road that has been difficult to overcome
