Breaking: Senior FIA officials resign from executive positions and F1 board
A senior board official has resigned from his role overseeing all F1 sporting events. FIA sporting director Steve Nielsen has stepped down from his role overseeing all F1 sporting events.
media understands that Nielsen left the job after qualifying in January this year. He is a key figure in the 2023 reform of the FIA and F1, responsible for improving the FIA and race management.
George Russell, president of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, previously praised Nielsen’s efforts to provide drivers with information on important sporting issues. Nelson joins the FIA from Formula One Management (FOM), having held key positions at Benetton, Renault, Toro Rosso, Lotus Renault, Honda and Williams.
When FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem reviewed the management team and internal processes, a new structure was introduced with Nielsen’s report to sole director Nikolas Tombazis. The FIA did not respond to a request for comment.
