BREAKING: Russell facing disqualification from Belgian Grand Prix
George Russell could be stripped of his Belgian Grand Prix victory.
George Russell is facing the threat of disqualification from his win at the Belgian Grand Prix.
Russell one-stopped his way to a surprise Spa victory ahead of Lewis Hamilton, but in post-race scrutineering, the FIA found that the weight of the car was 798.0kg, the required weight.
As is normal, fuel was then drained from the W15, with 2.8 litres being removed, but it was not fully drained according to the normal procedures.
The car was then weighed again by the FIA, with the weight found to be 796.5kg – some 1.5kg underweight.
This measurement was observed and confirmed by representatives from Mercedes.
Russell has been referred to the stewards, with disqualification expected for cars being under the minimum weight.
