South Korean police are investigating the sending of an e-mail threatening to detonate a bomb at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome stadium, which hosts the inaugural Major League Baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres on Wednesday, Yonhap news agency reported.
An employee of the South Korean consulate in Vancouver, Canada, was the one who alerted to the mail received, which threatens to detonate a bomb to harm players, including Japanese superstar Dogders player Shohei Ohtani.
Police are still trying to locate the sender and have deployed around 150 personnel to search the stadium thoroughly, where nothing suspicious has been found so far.
For the home opener and ahead of the second game of the season between the Dodgers and Padres on Thursday, some 400 security personnel were already expected to be deployed, three times as many as for a South Korean home league game.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government estimates that some 100,000 fans, South Korean and foreign, have travelled to the capital this week for the two games.
Wednesday’s game will be the first Major League Baseball game played in South Korea.
