Fernando Alonso has taken delivery of an Aston Martin gift – an Adrian Newey-designed Valkryie.
At home in Monaco, two-time F1 champion Alonso was gifted an example of the 6.5 litre V12 machine that creates some 1,155bhp.
The Valkyrie, limited to just 150 examples, was designed by outgoing Red Bull chief technical officer Newey during the time Aston sponsored Red Bull before moving onto its own works F1 programme in 2021.
Newey is leaving Red Bull as CTO, and as RacingNews365 reported, is expected to join with Alonso at Aston Martin from the second quarter of 2025 and ahead of the rules reset coming into force for 2026.
Executive chairman Lawrence Stroll has praised Newey as “clearly the most talented and gifted individual in Formula 1,” with a mega money offer set to lure Newey to Silverstone, with the team recently investing in a brand-new factory and state-of-the-art wind-tunnel.
An announcement is expected before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend across September 13th-15th.
Alonso responds
“It’s hard to put into words how much I have been looking forward to this day,” said Alonso, whose car features a red anodised aluminium accelerator pedal with his race number of #14.
“To sit at the wheel of my own Valkyrie; one that I have worked on designing so closely with the team at Q by Aston Martin is certainly a day to remember. Valkyrie truly is an F1 car for the road, with so much of the knowledge and technology taken from all the experience Aston Martin has on track and I can’t wait to hit the road.”
