Despite their regular season success, the team has struggled to secure playoff wins and World Series championships. Their last title was won in the shortened 2020 season.
The Dodgers are reportedly in the running for Shohei Ohtani, who is expected to sign a record-breaking deal during the offseason. In addition to pursuing Ohtani, they are also rumored to be working on a blockbuster trade for another MVP.
Could Ohtani and Trout both end up playing for the Dodgers?
Per Dominican Héctor Gómez of Z Deportes, the Dodgers are set to make a determined effort to sign Ohtani and are also rumored to be exploring a trade for his former Los Angeles Angels teammate and three-time MVP, Mike Trout.
32-year-old Mike Trout has seen a decline in his performance over the past few years, mostly due to injuries. He had his worst season since his debut in 2011, with a .263/.367/.490 slash line, 18 home runs, and 44 RBIs. He also had a 2.9 bWAR and a 131 OPS+ while playing in just 82 games.
Trout secures a major deal
Trout’s contract with the Angels runs until the end of the 2030 season. He inked a record-breaking deal in 2019, worth $426.5 million over 12 years, making him the highest paid player in MLB history with an average annual salary of around $37 million.
For the 9th consecutive season in 2023, the Angels failed to make the playoffs, extending their streak of losing seasons since 2015, which is currently the longest in MLB.
