According to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, the RaceTrac in Watkinsville, which is approximately 15 minutes away from Athens, was where the incident occurred.

It took authorities almost a year to arrest someone in connection to the murder of Wood.
On October, another resident from Commerce, Georgia, admitted to guilt in regards to lying during the firearm purchase process. The authorities stated that three officials made the announcement. The accusation against the co-defendant stated that they had unlawfully procured a firearm for Crumpton.
According to officials mentioned in the news release, Crumpton was part of the UGA football team, serving as a wide receiver in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Until spring of 2021, he was a student at the school; however, officials have stated that he did not fulfill the requirements for graduation. During the time of Wood’s murder, he resided in an apartment located less than a couple of miles from RaceTrac, his roommate being a close friend.
In the course of the trial, authorities disclosed that the companion gave testimony affirming that upon the occurrence of the shooting, Crumpton entered the apartment while brandishing a firearm. He conveyed remorse, proclaiming that his actions were unintentional, and clarified that his sole objective had been acquiring monetary gain. Supposedly, he admitted to the shooting in the presence of his friend.
After the shooting and alleged murder of Wood, four months later, Crumpton was once again implicated in a fatal shooting incident that occurred in Downtown Philadelphia. It is said that Crumpton discharged a total of 13 rounds, ultimately resulting in the man’s death.
According to the U.S., the law enforcement collected the 9mm shell casings, which were later subjected to ballistics testing. Through this testing, it was concluded that the firearm employed in the Philadelphia shooting incident was identical to the one used in the RaceTrac killing of Wood.
