Carson Beck was down last year, but returns to Georgia for another year with hopes of winning a national championship.
Expectations are rising for Beck, who leads the Heisman Trophy in winning percentage. But Georgia is missing some key players around him, which Kirby Smart said will be his biggest challenge heading into the spring.
“One of the biggest challenges for him is getting in shape and trusting the receivers around him.“ said. “ Smart said Sunday. Depending on the job. “He’s lucky and unlucky with Brock (Bowers) and Ladd (McConkey) and Marcus Rosemy (-Jacksaint) in the lineup. It’s too bad for him that he didn’t make the roster.
Bowers and McConkey are two of the most reliable wide receivers in the country when they’re alive. They combined for 86 receptions, 1,192 yards and six touchdowns. Add in Rosemy-Jacksaint’s 535 yards and four touchdowns, and there’s not much going for the program.
Both players’ names will be called sometime in the 2024 NFL Draft like this April. You will hear your name.
Going forward, Smart wants to build a relationship with Beck and the 2024 squad. Fortunately, players like Rara Thomas and Dominic Lovett are back to work in Georgia’s offense from last year. Newbie.
You have experience with other people, but the key is learning to trust each other. If Beck knows a player will do his job well, he will be successful on the field. It’s time to take them from spring practice to summer.
If you ask any quarterback, you know they like wide receivers they trust and are very willing to reconsider. Smart said. “There’s a lot of change in that room right now. So a big part of that is showing confidence in yourself and confidence in the players to do their job and trust them. That confidence isn’t given, it’s earned. They’re earning their confidence, and that goes both ways.
Beck hopes to build trust quickly. Georgia opens the year against Clemson in Atlanta. Both teams will die for the win. The Bulldogs are looking to regain their spot as national champions and Dabo Swinney needs a win to start the season off big..
