Just in: Former Phillies slugger finalizes contract with Milwaukee Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers are finalizing a contract with former Phillies slugger.
PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to a two-year, $34 million contract with Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the contract includes an opt-out after the first season.
Hoskins is surprisingly worth more than $30 million after tearing his ACL in spring training before 2023. When healthy, Hoskins is one of the best players to ever play baseball.
But the question is whether this year will start healthy.
In six years in Philly, he hit 148 home runs and hit .242/.353/.492. The right-handed hitter hit 27 home runs while pitching in more than 100 games. Heand is a power hitter who can hit 30 or more regular home runs. According to
Reports at the start of the offseason, the Chicago Cubs were the favorite to sign Hoskins.
But, he ends up meeting his rival.
However, it’s time for the Phillies to go past 30. With his injury and Bryce Harper returning to first base earlier than expected, Hoskins won’t be able to play. Dave Dombrowski announced at the start of the offseason that he didn’t expect the team to bring him back.
Hoskins could return as a designated hitter, but paying $34 million for a designated hitter with a torn ACL makes moving Dombrowski questionable, regardless of his professional track record for this corporation.
Hoskins will be missed for everything he helped the team accomplish in Philly. The ending was different than everyone expected, but it gave the city a great moment.
