Colorado Buffaloes Send 1-Word Message to Travis Hunter After Heisman Win

Colorado Buffaloes star Travis Hunter is more than just a superstar — he’s now an icon.

The two-way star took home the Heisman Trophy on Saturday, beating out Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty in a close competition. Hunter played close to all of his team’s snaps on offense as a wide receiver and defense as a cornerback, breaking precedent as one of just three non-quarterbacks to win the award in the last 23 years.

Hunter said he hopes to set a new standard for college football, paving the way for more players to line up on both sides of the ball.

“I think I laid the ground for more people to come in and go two ways,” Hunter said. “It starts with your mindset. If you believe you can do it, then you’ll be able to do it. And also, I do a lot of treatment. I keep up with my body. I get a lot of recovery.”

Hunter’s win earned plenty of praise, including the Colorado Buffaloes team which took to social media to honor his win. In a post on X, the college football program showed a video of Hunter walking through the streets of Manhattan with his trophy and included a one-word caption.

Hunter likely has more big things in his future. He is projected to go No. 1 overall in next year’s NFL Draft, with some suggesting he can continue to play both ways in the NFL.

In an appearance on the “Nick Ferg Show,” NFL legend John Elway said he believes the Colorado star will play on offense and defense next season.

“He’s got the tools to play. He’s a great corner as well as a great wideout. I don’t think there’s any question you get your best athletes on the field,” Elway said of Hunter. “There’s no question, I would entertain him going both ways, and obviously, he’s proven he can do that.”
