Verstappen responds to Newey’s all-time great F1 claim Red Bull chief designer Adrian Newey recently praised Max Verstappen during his dominant run.
Max Verstappen has responded to strong praise from Adrian Newey after the famous Formula 1 car designer described him as the greatest of all time. Statistically, Verstappen is currently enjoying the most dominant run in F1 history, having recently won his tenth consecutive race at the Italian GP – setting a new record.
The Dutchman is on course for his third F1 title as he holds a commanding lead over his rivals in the Drivers’ Championship. Although he has matched and surpassed the achievements of drivers considered F1 legends, Verstappen insists he is not focused on breaking those records.
“Everyone has their own opinion on these things” “For me, I’ve never been in F1 to prove that I belong with other names or at the top of the sport. I’m just here to do my best and win as much as I can when I have the chance.”
“Automatic control” Newey, who has worked with many of the all-time greats including Alain Prost, Mika Hakkinen and Sebastian Vettel, claimed Verstappen can drive an “automatic”. The RB19 car was out, but Verstappen consistently beat teammate Sergio Perez this year. “It’s a very nice time to drive,” Verstappen admitted.
“But every weekend other things always come up and you have to optimize. “It’s never a straight weekend. In a way, it’s almost like autopilot, but it’s also a thing when you get a lot more experience.
“I always think I’ve had that kind of thing while driving, but you also think about a lot of other processes . It’s suddenly not new to me.”
