Carlton is monitoring the future selection of St Kilda’s Paddy Dow as it warns of a high price on the head of North Melbourne signing speedster Zac Fisher.
Dow, who is out of contract, requested a trade to the Saints on Sunday after playing 10 games in 2023, but was limited to a minor role in five appearances.
Blues roster player Nick Austin said the club would “like to keep” Dow but admitted he could find more opportunities elsewhere after playing 73 games after being selected No.3 in the 2017 draft. The grand finale

We had good discussions with Paddy and his management at the end of the year,” Austin said. “His exit meeting was really productive – obviously we’d like to keep Paddy, but we’ve also agreed to help him increase his opportunities to contribute to his career. “So we’re working with St Kilda, we’re just looking because something we can use in the future is priority.”
According to Austin, discussions began with the Kangaroos about trading Fisher, who was out for most of the 2023 season, before a promising move fell through in the final rounds. The 25-year-old was dropped after round 24 and has not played in Carlton’s three finals, but Austin says the Blues will make a tough move for the left-footer. “Zac has two years left on his contract – he’s proven he’s a quality AFL player,” he said. “(We) started a little bit with Brady (Rawlings) at the combine, but North also moved around a lot, so we’re looking for something that represents Zac’s opportunity, but also what Zac means to us.
According to Austin, there was interest in Gold Coast winger Elijah Hollands, the big brother of Carlton’s Ollie Hollands, but there was still a lot to discuss before a deal could be finalised. The elder Hollands was selected No. 7 overall in the 2020 draft but played in just 14 games over three seasons.
There is interest, Elijah is a contract player and Gold Coast have some work to do, they have a new coach and things like that,” Austin said. “There is some interest, but that will be revealed this week.”
