Should Tiger Woods consider using a golf cart to get the most out of his game? PGA Tour star Collin Morikawa has his say on the subject.
Collin Morikawa believes Tiger Woods’ ego is too big for him to even consider using a golf cart on the PGA Tour.
Morikawa, 27, was asked by a reporter ahead of this week’s Memorial Tournament whether he would want to encourage the 15-time major champion to jump into a golf cart to help him get the most out of his game on the PGA Tour.
Woods, 48, underwent ankle surgery last season, something he needed to have done in the aftermath of his horror car crash in February 2021.
While the former World No.1 regularly uses golf carts in practice to help him go easy on the feet in preparation for the majors, Woods has not pushed for a golf cart in PGA Tour events.
And neither does he plan to, something he shut down with reporters back in 2021.
Woods just needs one more victory to set a new outright record for most PGA Tour wins.
He currently shares the record with late great Sam Snead on 82 wins.
There is some anticipation Woods may decide to take up the offer of a golf cart when he reaches the age of 50 on 30 December 2025 and he can then compete on the PGA Tour Champions circuit in 2026.
We will have to wait and see.
Much will likely depend how the next couple of seasons progress for Woods, who has only participated in three events so far in 2024.
He was forced to withdraw during the second round of his official PGA Tour comeback at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera in February.
Woods then finished dead last of those that made the halfway cut at The Masters, albeit he set a new consecutive cuts mark at Augusta.
He then missed the cut in his last start three weeks ago at the US PGA at Valhalla.
Woods has openly admitted he can still play ‘all the shots’ but that he simply struggles to walk around a golf course for 72 holes.
“He wants to keep doing it until he can’t.”

When pressed for comment about Woods potentially taking up the offer a golf cart on Tour sometime, Morikawa said:
“I mean, yeah, but his ego’s pretty big, you know, as is all of ours. I just think he wants to keep doing it until he can’t, and maybe there’s something about a golf cart that’s just, you know, ain’t it.”
Morikawa did, however, say if he was in the same position as Woods and was offered the opportunity to get behind the wheel in a PGA Tour event or a major championship, then he would jump at the chance.
“I would be taking a golf cart if they allowed me. I would love to.”
The two-time major champion recently spent some time with Woods at his Tiger Jam event over the weekend.
Some fans were concerned for Woods’ condition after seeing him ‘slur his words’ during a poker game.
He was also seen chomping on cigars, which for some reason split opinion on Twitter, just as it did when Charley Hull ripped darts at the US Women’s Open last week.
Morikawa told how Woods was in good spirits and even taking the mickey out of him.
Woods was also up to his old tricks, proving to everyone just how much talent he still possesses at the age of 48.
“Yeah, I mean, he was making fun of me not being able to hit a draw, so I hit a draw, it was like a five-yard draw… and then he hit a hook and I swear he was aiming like three feet from the line of people that were on the right side.
“The skill and the feel is still all there, right? So you wouldn’t know. But you add that over time, over 18 holes, over a course of 72 holes, the entire week of prep, look, the guy’s been through a lot.
“I’m very lucky to have that opportunity to go and do something like that, to talk to him, to hang out, because you go back and you look at your 15-year-old self, your 10-year-old self and you say, yeah, you’re going to go spend a few hours with Tiger playing poker, hitting golf balls on the range, picking his brain, screwing around, like, that’s — you know, that’s a dream, right? So that’s pretty cool.”
Woods has elected to do a scouting trip of next week’s US Open venue, Pinehurst No.2 in North Carolina, this week, instead of competing in the Memorial Tournament hosted by record 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus.
Morikawa is in action this week, however, and he will be looking to continue a recent golden run of form on the PGA Tour.
The World No.8 has rattled off four top-10 finishes in his last five starts, including a T3 at The Masters and a T4 at the US PGA.
