REPORT: Phil Mickelson drops retirement hint, as LIV Golf star reveals retirement date.

Phil Mickelson has opened up on his future in the game of golf, as the HyFlyers captain admitted his playing days are “toward their end” as he nears his 54th birthday

Phil Mickelson has hinted that his playing career could well soon be over. Mickelson has clinched 45 PGA Tour wins and six majors during his storied career, announcing himself as one of the greatest players of all time.

Despite being one of golf’s most celebrated figures, Mickelson’s allegiance to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf has been polarizing since his departure from the PGA Tour in 2022. Since making the Saudi switch, the HyFlyers captain has failed to make his best form, but has still pocketed more than $6million in winnings.

With only one top-30 finish this season on the LIV circuit, the Hall of Famer candidly spoke about what lies ahead. “I’m 53 now and my career, you know, if I’m being truthful it’s toward its end,” Mickelson confessed to Bloomberg TV in Singapore.

He also hinted at a shift in focus: “Now, I would like to help others find the same enjoyment and fulfilment that the game of golf has provided me.” Mickelson’s current three-year contract with the controversial LIV series will expire after the 2024 season, leaving many to speculate whether the three-time Masters winner will renew his ties or take a different path post-2025.

The American golfer is expected to continue his association with LIV Golf, having established and led the HyFlyers team for the past two years. According to Alan Shipnuck, Mickelson’s biographer, the golfing legend’s next contract could see him in a non-playing captain role, maintaining his position as the leader of the HyFlyers.

Despite his efforts, Mickelson has yet to secure a LIV title, both individually and as a team. Brendan Steele, Mickelson’s teammate, finally brought their franchise into the winners’ circle last week when he emerged victorious at LIV Adelaide. Mickelson’s influence within the team remains evident as Steele praised his team captain’s support fo

llowing his win.
