Scottie Scheffler is currently leading the field as he chases a second Masters title, but has confirmed that he will walk off the course if needs to – with his wife expecting to go into labour over the next few days. The 27-year-old is expecting his first child with his with, Meredith Scheffler, and the 2022 champion has firmly stated he will leave as soon as he gets the call to do so.

Scheffler has been at his best throughout the first two days and sits atop of the leaderboard alongside Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa. The world number one came in as the strong favourite to win his second green jacket – after beating Rory McIlroy to his first in 2022 – with an excellent second-day performance, in tough conditions putting him in strong contention to claim a second Augusta title in three years.

Scheffler’s wife was unable to fly to Georgia for the Masters, meaning he would have to get a flight back to Dallas in the hopes of making it in time to see the birth of their first child.

The flight from Augusta over to Dallas, Texas will take around two and a half hours, a journey that Scheffler is prepared to make should he get the call – even if he’s on the 17th hole on the final day.

Scheffler then told ESPN: “If she calls me while I’m on the 17th, then I better go home.”

Earlier this year, Scheffler had revealed his excitement over their impending child. He said: “It’s going to be pretty wild. I don’t think it’s hit either of us quite yet, but it’s an exciting time for us as a family.

“It’s been a pretty exciting last seven months or so, and we’re looking forward to hopefully getting the baby out of there nice and healthy and with a healthy momma, and then we’ll go from there.”

Interestingly, Scheffler had not been the only star on the course to be in this situation, with Sam Burns’ wife also close to going into labor.

However, the world number 22 missed the cut, with the decision made for him and has since traveled back to be with his wife.

Meanwhile, Scheffler remains in Augusta, atop of the leaderboard alongside Homa and LIV Golf rebel DeChambeau.
