Woj: Bronny James Expected to Move to G League After Debuting with LeBron, Lakers

Bronny James and his father, LeBron James, are expected to share the court with the Los Angeles Lakers in the first week of the upcoming NBA season, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on SportsCenter (2:20 mark).

However, Wojnarowski added that there are “no expectations” that James will be in the Lakers’ rotation. Instead, James is expected to spend the majority of his time with the Lakers’ G League team, the South Bay Lakers.

James joined the Lakers after the team selected him with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. He has since signed a four-year, $7.9 million contract.

No father-and-son duo has ever played in the NBA at the same time, let alone on the same team. LeBron and Bronny James appear all but certain to be the first duo to accomplish both feats.

The two would join other fathers and sons in other sports. Outfielders Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. played together on the 1990 and 1991 Seattle Mariners. Gordie Howe (at 51 years old) and his sons, Mark and Marty, played on the 1979-80 Hartford Whalers.

Sons have followed their fathers into the NBA on numerous occasions. Current-day examples include Domantas and Arvydas Sabonis, Klay and Mychal Thompson and Gary Trent Jr. and Sr.

History will be made in just a few months, though, when LeBron and Bronny suit up together for the Purple and Gold.
