When golfers are upset that the best players in the world is not playing the same events as this week’s Players Championships, world No.
1 Scottie Scheffler said they should turn their anger to what caused the breakup of the sport.

“If the fans are upset, look at the guys that left,” Scheffler said Tuesday. “We had a tour, we were all together, and the people who left are no longer here. At the end of the day, the scrap will come.

“Because our tour , like I said, we do our best to create the best product for the fans, and that’s who we really are.

As Scheffler looks to defend his title at the 50th Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass , reigning Masters champion Jon Rahm and other past majors such as Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith and Bryson DeChambeau, will not be on the course while playing in the competitive LIV Golf League.

The main course on the PGA Tour known as the “fifth major” is not as deep as it used to be.

“If guys want to take the money and walk away, that’s their decision,” Scheffler said. “I’m not going to sit here and tell guys not to take hundreds of millions of dollars. If that’s what they think is best for their life, then do it. I’m not going to sit here and force guys to stay on our tour. But at the end of the day, this is where I want to be and we’re going to continue development and what they do doesn’t matter to me.

In his first press conference after the Tour Championship in Atlanta, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said the circuit’s talks with the Saudi billionaire “boosted” The consortium of sports team owners, which has already announced that it will invest up to 3 billion dollars in the PGA Tour, met with the governor of PIF Yasir Al-Rumayyan in January,
Monahan said the tour understands fans are “tired of hearing about conflicts, money and who gets what.

One of the next steps in a possible deal is for Al-Rumayyan to meet with player executives on the political committee of the PGA Tour, including Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth.playing executives.also sit on the board of PGA Tour Enterprises, a for-profit entity created by the tour and SSG.

“I think it’s really important that we all move in the same direction,” said Patrick Cantlay, one of the players’ coaches. “I think it’s really exciting with this PGA Tour Enterprises board that we have the opportunity to start something new and all move in the right direction together.

   At Monahan’s press conference, a reporter asked if he believed he had the full support of the government as he worked to advance the deal with the Saudis. Monahan acknowledged that there has been “a lot of good, lively discussion” on our board about his future as commissioner.

“You know, that’s a question you have to ask the players,” Monahan said. “I can’t generalize about the players, but because both boards have given me responsibility, I have the support of our board and I’m the right person to take us forward. I know that. I believe in it in my heart and that’s what I’m determined to do.” World No. 6 golfer Xander Schauffele said he was skeptical that Monahan was the right man to lead the tour. Schauffele urged Monahan  “Faith is enough fragile, so words are words and I would say in my book that he has a long way to go,” said Schauffele “I’m sure he will support [. player] on the board because they were with him on some of those decisions, but for me personally he still has a long way to go..
