Ogunbowale has enjoyed a stellar start to the WNBA season. Despite the Wings struggling to a 3-7 record out of the gates, the Notre Dame product is averaging 26.4 points per game, plus 5.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds. Ogunbowale trails only Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson in points per game this season, making her absence from the Team USA squad all the more surprising.
But Clark’s omission has dominated the narrative, with pundits and fans alike blasting the decision to leave one of the biggest stars in the sport at home. The 22-year-old, however, appears to have taken the news in her stride.
“I know it’s the most competitive team in the world and I know it could have gone either way – me being on the team or me not being on the team,” Clark said.
I’m going to be rooting them on to win gold. I was a kid who grew up watching the Olympics, so it will be fun to watch them. Honestly, no disappointment. It just gives me something to work for; it’s a dream. Hopefully one day I can be there.”
